1. General information about oak processionary moths
The oak processionary moth (Thaumetopoea processionea) is a dangerous pest of oak trees. In addition to damaging the trees, its stinging hairs pose a serious threat to humans and animals, as they can cause skin irritation, respiratory problems, and allergic reactions.
The caterpillars usually appear in May and June, forming conspicuous processions (long chains of caterpillars) on the trunk or branches and creating large web nests. A severe infestation can significantly weaken or even kill the trees.
