1. General information about box tree moths
The box tree moth (Cydalima perspectalis) is a feared pest of box trees. Originally introduced from East Asia, it has been spreading rapidly in Europe for years. These inconspicuous moths lay their eggs on box trees. After a short time, the voracious caterpillars hatch, which chew through the leaves and can leave entire plants bare.
Without targeted measures, the box tree moth can destroy entire box trees in just a few weeks. What's particularly problematic is that it produces multiple generations per year, so the infestation pressure remains high throughout the entire season.
